Refugio do Pensamento

Refugio do Pensamento from Angharad Harrop on Vimeo.

This practice as research project has been supported by The Arts Council of Wales and Ministeiro da Cultura, Brasil.

Angharad Harrop (Wales) and Ruan de Vargas (Brazil) first began working together in 2010. Since their beginnings on the roof top of an apartment in Rio de Janeiro, support for their work has grown with funding from Wales Arts International, Arts Council of Wales and the Ministerio da Cultura.

Refugio do Pensamento explores communication, cultural exchange and sharing: to what extent and by what means can we truly encounter and reveal ourselves to others? To what extent does our own received culture ground identification with where we belong, and how can we negotiate and adapt this to encounter and reveal ourselves to others.

It was developed in Criccieth and first performed at the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod. The group then traveled to Brazil and after a residency at the Centro Coreografico da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro, the piece was performance at the Teatro Angel Vianna.
