Itaipuacu

I've spent my weekend with my new best friend Daniela Pozino and her family in Itaipuacu (It-eye-poo-a-sue) near Niteroi eating delicious food, learning Portuguese but primarily making a dance film! We met on Leticia Ramos' course at Danca em Foco two weeks ago and decided to make a dance film together.
The idea of the film is to explore with movement of the dancing body and the camera the meaning of the Itaipuacu. Itaipuacu name comes from the original native language here which is Tupi and translates too
ITA- Rock
Y-  Noise
PU - Water
ASSU - Big
Daniela improvised with these ideas with movement whilst I used them to influence the camera (and movement of it) we've played alot with perspective... making things seem big or small and echoing the movement of the sea.
The music has been provided by Daniela's brother Luciano, he is a musician and this track as well was created during an improvised jam so it was a perfect choice for our film.
We spent most of the day yesterday filming and then the evening (and a bit of this morning) editing. We used my Toshiba flip camera to film....

This video is very kind! Showed me the true integration between the beach and a woman. The woman dancing and the ocean kissing her feet. It is a perfect marriage. The music, the camera woman and the view! Congratulations!

Beaufitul video! Great dancing, video shooting and music, the movements of the dance are in unity with the movements of nature, the waves of the sea.

It came with subtlety, improvising on the Stage Nature.
Dance that brought the veil in the foam of the sea at the foot of a beautiful shrine
Where the Elephant tried not to look at pretending to be stone, to spy
Dance of harmonious beauty.
I liked, beautiful, brief, Bravo!
English is a bit Tupiguarani, sorry ... lol

Thanks for commenting, we really appreciate it! Lovely poetry too... I think we might have to borrow this when we are asked to give some words about the film!

This is spectacular Annie, i love the the interaction of the landscape and use of camera perspectives, your choice of focus is simple yet beautifully chosen and placed, well done, you have captured the spirit of the landscape danced sensitively through the performer xxx good work!

I think this video does work really well because of Dani, she belongs to this landscape and it to her, it is evident in her every move her beauty and the beauty of the landscape share a heritage that I'm really pleased we captured. we intended to make a film with the two of us but when we got there it just made much more sense to have just Dani, I feel we made a good decision! x

Angharad, it´s so nice to see the reviews from our work together (thank you all, people!). We were able to deliver what we wanted and put together a work that really feels like Itaipuaçu to me, with the music and everything. Great to have worked with you. It was also due to your sensitivity and curiosity to understand a foreign place that we blended well. Very nice experience. Viva o elefante! :-)
